Thank you. Another excellent lecture! I wish to share with you a recent read. I am interested in geriatric medicine and have being doing some research in this field. Interestingly, there have been many press reports that older adults are increasingly 'connected' using mobile phones and the internet, but the findings from the IDS-TILDA study for people with intellectual disability are that they are not connected, with over 80pc having little use of, or access to, social media, mobile phones or the internet. One participant said: "I own a mobile phone, but I use it for a camera mostly." Another highlighted the difficulty with practical access to technology when they said: "I never went to school much to learn to read or write. I have never used a computer, but I'd like to." I believe this will absolutely have significant affect on our society, quality of life for older persons and their families. As devices and programmes become more complex and technical, do you feel there is a market to cater for training and educating this population to develop and adapt to the latest technologies? In your experience ( clinical etc) have you observed older persons availing of mobile related technologies or devices?
Kind Regards,
Catherine
